Fishing Report

October 18, 2025

I wanted to start this report out by telling those of you that have not heard, my good friend and fellow guide for the last 25 years or so, Capt. George Beckwith of Downeast Guide Service died tragically Monday in a freak accident while clearing trees on his Virginia property.  George was one of the nicest and friendliest people that you would have ever met. He was a good friend and he will be missed by all of the fishing community . There was only one Downeast George.  You are really going to be missed buddy!  Once again we are going to have a very rough and windy weekend coming our way. NE winds 20-35 all the way from Thursday through Sunday along with some rain in the forecast. Only good thing is that the winds will be cooling off the water temperatures and the fishing should really start to get good after this front exits. Reports from yesterday show that the fishing is still going strong.  There were big numbers of large Spanish Mackerel being caught by people using spinning gear and epoxy jigs.  There Spanish were running from the 14-15" Spanish up to 5 lb 24" Spanish.  They are feeding on glass minnows and finger mullet.  The false albacore were mixed in with the Spanish.  There have still been good numbers of the larger bluefish up on the Cape Lookout Shoals.  People bottom fishing inside the sound and Morehead City Turning basin were catching good numbers of large sea mullet.  There have been good numbers of nice pompano being caught in the surf as well as Bogue Inlet Pier. The offshore fishing continues to be good for wahoo and bailer dolphin and the occasional blackfin tuna.  Pamlico Sound continues to have good old drum bite and good speckled trout fishing.
